My favourites include all of Lanthimos’ works (The Favourite, Dogtooth, The Lobster…) <\/em>and now Poor Couples<\/em>! Lanthimos’ films have always held a special place in my heart, but this one has been particularly close to me. I saw it 2 days ago, but it’s still tight!<\/p>\n\n If you’re one of the lucky ones looking to spice up your weekend with a truly extraordinary movie experience, then it’s time to head to Yorgos Lanthimos’ latest film, Poor Couples! <\/p>\n\n Bella Baxter, the protagonist of the film, is a young woman brought back from the dead who, following her curiosity<\/strong>and her desire for freedom<\/strong>, embarks on an extraordinary adventure, experiencing both the beauty<\/strong>and the depravity of<\/strong>the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n It’s a very unusual and bizarre coming-of-age story <\/strong>in which sexuality plays a crucial role, almost on an animal level. But then and as it must be, and perhaps as it should be – or could have been. (which is why the film was given an 18 ring).<\/em><\/p>\n\n The film explores the themes of life, the pursuit of knowledge, emancipation and freedom as we follow the development of the character of Bella Baxter (Emma Stone) as she discovers herself and the world, brought to life by the experimental scientist Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). <\/strong>The artistic expression, the acting and the direction combine to make “The Poor Couples” a truly special film experience that truly stands out in today’s cinema.<\/p>\n\n This is an experimental film that pushes the boundaries of what we are used to, and which not only entertained us, but also made us think.<\/p>\n\n The film is one of the few works that is able to redefine the boundaries of cinema as an art form <\/strong>, combining modern visual tools<\/strong> with<\/strong>a deep, multi-layered story<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n Not only for its spectacle, but also for its spiritual depth and message, it will be a lasting experience for you too, I am sure.<\/p>\n\n Why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n Because it is fundamentally about human existence<\/strong> and the desire for knowledge<\/strong>, which is something that concerns most of us.<\/p>\n\n Bella’s journey towards self-identity <\/strong>is not only a physical<\/strong> journey, but also a spiritual <\/strong>one, where the audience is confronted with questions of their own freedom and identity.<\/p>\n\n The film focuses on the notion of freedom <\/strong>, in particular:<\/p>\n\n Bella’s desire for freedom and her quest to make her own way reflects the viewer’s own desires and limitations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n The film also boldly confronts social norms<\/strong> and prejudices <\/strong>, especially the role of women in society and emancipation.<\/p>\n\n The story challenges conventional social structures and encourages viewers to reflect on societal expectations and how they affect individual freedom<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n Extra experience? (one of my favourites)<\/p>\n\n Everything has a cyberpunk <\/strong>look, the costumes, the sets, even the sea and the sky. The special content deserves a special atmosphere, to which the film’s music contributes greatly.<\/p>\n\n “Poor Couples” is not just a film; it is an artistic statement<\/strong>, a visual poem<\/strong> that stays in our minds for a long time.<\/p>\n\n The film showed that the possibility of reinvention <\/strong>and change <\/strong>is always present in our lives, no matter what challenges we face.<\/p>\n\n “Poor Couples”‘s bold confrontation with social norms and prejudices, especially about the role of women in society, has made me<\/strong> re-evaluate my own assumptions and the frameworks that limit my thinking and actions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n I recommend this film to anyone who likes challenging, thought-provoking films and is ready to step out of the drabness of everyday life into a world where the boundaries between fantasy and reality are blurred.
