Attila Till’s short film “Csicska” reveals the cruel reality of rural slavery, inspired by real-life accounts and news reports.\nThe film tells the story of Istv\u00e1n Balogh (Szabolcs Thur\u00f3czy, excellent performance as always – only this time it hurts even more), a rural farmer who keeps his family in terror while keeping a “chichka” – a slave – in his stable.\nThe slave’s name is Szit\u00e1s Bal\u00e1zs in the film, and Balogh keeps him terrified, too, in animal line.\nStarving him is practically the least of his grievances. <\/p>\n\n

The film is a strong social critique, pointing out the serious problem of rural slavery, which unfortunately is still present in Hungary.\nThe phenomenon occurs mainly in remote farm villages, where people are completely vulnerable and in most cases disappear forever – on the one hand, no one misses them, and on the other, there is no control. <\/p>\n\n

Attila Till’s work shows not only the distorted relationships between family members, but also the disregard for human dignity, drawing attention to the need to take action against such abuses.\nTwenty minutes of “The Prankster” is enough to accurately portray a family’s way of life and a terrible social phenomenon, shocking and making the audience think.\nAdmittedly, 20 minutes is too long, it is so distressing and heartbreaking. <\/p>\n\n

It is difficult to write about, but let’s reflect.<\/p>\n\n

The short film “The Twit” offers several important lessons:<\/p>\n\n

1. Protecting human dignity: the film shows that all people have the right to dignity and respect.\nThe right to dignity and respect for all human dignity.\nAll forms of exploitation and abuse must be condemned. <\/p>\n\n

2. Raising social awareness: the film draws attention to a serious social problem that still exists.\nIt is important that the community and the authorities are aware of and take action against such phenomena. <\/p>\n\n

3. Vulnerability and power: The relationship between Istv\u00e1n Balogh and the henchman highlights how those in positions of power exploit those in vulnerable positions.\nUnfortunately, this dynamic is also present in reality, and not only in the rural world. <\/p>\n\n

4. Increase empathy and awareness: the story helps to increase empathy for those who are living in such situations.\nWe understand the importance of social awareness and helping those in need, as the film puts us in the role of the underdog. <\/p>\n\n

5. Self-organization and civic courage: local communities and individuals must also take action against such phenomena, to put an end to such terrible situations.<\/p>\n\n

The “Twit” also encourages us to listen to each other and to be brave when it comes to standing up for those weaker than ourselves.\nEven if we are just a little bit stronger, it helps.\nThrough the story, we can learn the importance of listening to the people around us, recognising the signs of abuse and taking action against injustice.\nStand up for those who cannot speak up for themselves and work together for a better, fairer society. <\/p>\n\n
